Installing CertainTeed WinterGuard:

Installation of CertainTeed RoofRunner underlayment:

- Lay out the RoofRunner underlayment horizontally across the roof deck, positioning it so that the printed side is exposed and facing upwards.
- Affix the underlayment to the deck using standard roofing cap nails, aimed appropriately for securement.
- Adjoin subsequent underlayment pieces by overlapping the edges as recommended by CertainTeed's specifications to maintain water resistance.
- Take advantage of the RoofRunner’s slip-resistant surface to enhance safety during the installation process.
Install CertainTeed SwiftStart shingle
What is SwiftStart?
CertainTeed's SwiftStart shingle is a specialized starter shingle used at the eave and rake edges of a roof. It provides a secure foundation, protecting against wind-driven rain and preventing water infiltration, crucial for promoting proper water drainage and safeguarding overall roof integrity.
Installing SwiftStart involves:
- Align the starter shingles with the roof edge, providing a slight overhang of 1/4 to 3/4 inch for proper water runoff.
- Secure the starter strip to the roof deck using roofing nails placed above the cutouts and below the sealant strip to ensure proper holding power and water shedding.
- For each subsequent starter strip, overlap the preceding strip according to the manufacturer's specified distance to create a continuous barrier against wind and water.
- Install the first course of field shingles over the starter strip, ensuring the bottom edge is attached directly to the starter strip's sealant to bond properly and prevent blow-offs.
Install CertainTeed Shingles
Certainteed Landmark shingle?
The CertainTeed Landmark series shingles offer an elegant wood shake appearance with the durability and performance of asphalt shingles. They feature dual-layered construction for increased protection, come in a wide range of colors, and are backed by a comprehensive lifetime-limited warranty. These shingles incorporate QuadraBond technology for layer adhesion, StreakFighter to resist algae streaks, CertaSeal adhesive for wind resistance, and NailTrak for improved installation. They meet UL Class A fire resistance standards and are available in various styles for different levels of protection and aesthetic preference.
Installing Certainteed Landmark shingle
1.Preparation: Prior to installation, inspect the roof deck for damage and make any necessary repairs. Ensure that the surface is clean, dry, and flat. Install an appropriate underlayment to protect against water infiltration. Depending on the roof's slope you might need to install waterproofing shingle underlayment (WinterGuard) and water-resistant underlayment (Roofers' Select or DiamondDeck).
- Shingle Layout: Start laying the shingles from the bottom up, following the manufacturer's guidelines and the chosen pattern. Make sure to stagger the shingle joints, and maintain consistent overhang and alignment throughout the installation process.
- Fastening: Secure the shingles using roofing nails, positioning them in the NailTrak areas on each shingle. Proper fastening is crucial for wind resistance and long-term durability.
Install CertainTeed Ridge vent or other ventilation
What is CertainTeed Ridge vent ventilation?
CertainTeed Ridge Vent ventilation is a type of attic exhaust ventilation system that is installed along the ridge line of a roof. The purpose of ridge vents is to allow warm, humid air to escape from the attic, helping to regulate the temperature and moisture levels inside, which can improve energy efficiency and prolong the life of the roof. CertainTeed provides different styles of ridge vents that cater to various aesthetic and functional requirements, such as filtered and unfiltered options.
Airflow: CertainTeed ridge vents are designed to provide continuous airflow along the peak of the roof, which optimizes attic ventilation when properly balanced with intake ventilation at the eaves or soffits.
Design:These vents are often low-profile and adaptable to different roof designs, which integrates seamlessly with the shingles for an attractive finish.
Weather
Resistance:Features like external baffles and internal weather filters are built into various CertainTeed ridge vent models to prevent rain, snow, and pests from entering the attic, while still allowing air to flow out.
Installation:CertainTeed ridge vents are installed with compatible intake systems, like the CertainTeed Intake Vent, to ensure a balanced ventilation system. For proper installation, these systems may include end caps, hand-nailable features, and alignment tabs for straightforward, consistent installation.
Install CertainTeed Ridge Cap Shingles
What is CertainTeed Ridge Cap Shingles?
CertainTeed Ridge Cap Shingles offer a high-quality finishing touch to a new roof, providing a blend of durability and aesthetic appeal. These specialized shingles are designed to complement the appearance of CertainTeed’s main roofing shingles and provide additional protection at the hip and ridge lines where two roof planes meet. They are crafted to withstand harsh weather conditions and help to enhance the roofline for a polished, professionally finished look. With a variety of colors to choose from, CertainTeed Ridge Cap Shingles are an excellent choice for homeowners seeking to elevate the curb appeal and performance of their roofing system.
Installing Certainteed Ridge Cap shingle
- Preparation: Before you begin the installation of ridge cap shingles, make sure the roof is prepared. This includes installing all the necessary underlayment, flashing, and prior courses of shingles according to the manufacturer’s specifications and local building codes.
- Alignment: Align the first ridge cap shingle with the edge of the ridge and ensure it’s centered so that the same amount of the shingle extends on both sides of the ridge. This is important for both aesthetics and function, as it keeps the ridge even and properly sealed.
- Nailing: Apply the shingles with nails according to the instructions provided by CertainTeed. Typically, nails should be driven in where the shingle provides an indication and be covered by the next shingle to ensure they do not allow water penetration.
- Sealing: As each shingle is laid, the sealant strip will help bind it to the one beneath it. Additional roofing cement can be applied under the final shingle to enhance sealing if required.
- Overlap and Continue: Each subsequent shingle should be aligned and overlapped as specified by the manufacturer. You would usually leave a certain amount of the previous shingle exposed to the weather, which creates the desired pattern and ensures proper coverage at the ridge.
- Finishing Entry and Exit Points: On the final shingle at each end of the ridge, you might need to trim and seal using roofing cement to secure it and ensure no water penetrates at the ends of the ridge line.
